BULACAN WILL MAINTAIN ITS STATUS QUO
In light of the high heat index experienced in the Province, the Provincial Government of Bulacan has issued Memorandum DRF-04062024-152, declaring the implementation of online classes as the mode of delivering education. This measure is aimed at safeguarding the safety and welfare of the students. Furthermore, individuals are encouraged to limit outdoor activities and venture outside only when essential to mitigate issues arising from extreme heat.
The World Health Organization (WHO) fact sheet on climate change, heat, and health also provides several tips for dealing with extreme heat. Here are the main points listed in the fact sheet:
- Stay Cool and Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors in well ventilated buildings, and take cool showers or baths to lower body temperature.
- Plan Outdoor Activities Carefully: Limit outdoor activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day, and take frequent breaks in the shade.
- Wear Appropriate Clothing: Choose lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing to help keep cool.
- Protect Yourself from the Sun: Wear sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) to protect against harmful UV rays.
- Avoid Alcoholic and Caffeinated Beverages: These can increase dehydration and contribute to heat-related illnesses.
- Use Public Cooling Centers: Seek out public places with air conditioning, such as shopping malls or libraries, if you don't have access to air conditioning at home.
- Stay Informed: Pay attention to weather forecasts and heat advisories issued by local authorities, and be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
These tips are aimed at helping individuals and communities cope with extreme heat and reduce the risk of heat-related health problems.
