Background of PAFT-Upsilon

Founded in 2016, the Philippine Association of Food Technologists - Upsilon Chapter (PAFT-Upsilon) is an academic organization for BSFT students at Bulacan State Agricultural University (BASC). As a recognized chapter of PAFT, Inc., it promotes academic excellence, professional growth, and innovation in food technology. Through seminars, workshops, and industry collaborations, PAFT-Upsilon equips future food technologists with the skills and knowledge to excel in the field while fostering leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility.

Congratulations to 𝗭3: 𝗭𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗭𝗲𝗻 𝗭𝗶𝗻𝗴, led by Ma’am Ma Fe and Ma’am Marielle, for winning the 2𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒐𝒓𝒚 at the Agri-Innovation Forum 2025 held on March 21, 2025, at Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU).
We also extend our appreciation to 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗼 and 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 (4th-year student) for participating in the pitch competition (Student Category) with their coach, 𝗠𝗮’𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲, and to 𝗠𝗮’𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗮 𝗙𝗲 for competing in the pitch competition (Researcher Category).

PAFT-Upsilon is proud to introduce 𝐏𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠, a charity initiative aimed at making a significant difference in the lives of children in need. This community-driven project will become an annual activity. PAFTulong seeks to provide essential educational and hygiene supplies to children, offering them the resources they need to thrive academically and personally. By taking action, we aim to make a difference not only within our school but also in the broader community, extending love, care, and knowledge to those in need.
This year, we invite you to be part of PAFTulong, with the theme: “𝑲𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈,” as we extend our hands to the children of the 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐎𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞. Help us equip these young learners with the tools they need to succeed by donating educational and hygiene kits.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | PAFT-Upsilon successfully hosts 2nd PAFTYamanin ang Kaalaman seminar and competition

In its ongoing effort to promote food science and technology among senior high school (SHS) students, the Philippine Association of Food Technologists (PAFT) - Upsilon successfully conducted the 2nd PAFTYamanin ang Kaalaman: A Seminar, Quiz Contest, and Food Exhibit at the BASC Farmer’s Training Center last November 29.
With the theme “Navigating the Future: Exploring the Role of Research and Development,” the event featured a comprehensive learning experience for students, featuring a seminar led by distinguished speakers, an engaging quiz contest, and an innovative food exhibit.
Michael John Espiritu, president of PAFT-Upsilon, explained that the primary goal of this annual event is to provide insights into the field of food science and technology while also encouraging students to consider food technology as a career path offered by Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC).
“We aim to inspire SHS students by showcasing the possibilities in food science and technology, as well as to promote our program at BASC. This is our way of encouraging future technologists to take on this exciting field,” shared Espiritu.
Espiritu also added that the PAFT-Upsilon team began working a month prior, overcoming logistical and organizational challenges as they personally delivered invitations to both public and private schools across District 3 despite adverse weather conditions and transportation limitations.
“Hindi po madali ang mga preparations. May times na inaabot kami ng gabi sa pag-aayos ng props at decorations, at pagod ang bawat isa sa pag-distribute ng invitation letters gamit lang ang motorcycles. Umulan man o umaraw, hindi kami tumigil,” said Espiritu.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | PAFT, in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) and the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) successfully conducted a 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 at Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres, Inc. (BYSMPI) in Bonga Menor, Bustos, Bulacan.

The PAFT, in collaboration with the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 (𝗖𝗘𝗧) and the 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗖𝗦) will be conducting the 𝑩𝒀𝑺𝑴𝑷𝑰 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈: 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑱𝒂𝒎 𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 on 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 28, 2025, at 𝐁𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐢 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐜. (𝐁𝐘𝐒𝐌𝐏𝐈) 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐫, 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐬, 𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧.

This hands-on training will feature a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises, facilitated by resource speakers and student volunteers from PAFT-Upsilon. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the actual process of bread and jam making,
equipping them with valuable food processing skills.

We look forward to an engaging and educational session with all participants!
